Zen Preview

RUFUS SEWELL IN A SUIT!! (Sorry, I just had to get that out of my system...)

At some point last year I can remember being intrigued by the announcement of a new mystery series starring Rufus Sewell (and it is NO SECRET I love me some Rufus Sewell!). Zen is based on a series of mystery novels by author Michael Dibdin - Rufus as an Italian? *swoon* I am so there.

According to BBC America's "DVDs in the works" blog, Zen is set to premiere on Masterpiece Mystery July 17th (speaking of schedules, PBS you seriously need to go ahead and announce the full Mystery line-up, like yesterday - just sayin'). Anyways - here's a preview:

Watch the full episode. See more Masterpiece.

I can not WAIT for this to start - it looks like fun! I love the fact that BBC America likens the vibe of the show to The Saint, starring Roger Moore as Simon Templar. If you've never seen that show - well it's a trip! *wink*

The series features Caterina Murino as Tania, Zen's love interest (Murino was the ill-fated Bond girl Solange in Casino Royale), Ben Miles as Zen's "unofficial taskmaster" (Miles has appeared in Lark Rise to Candleford and Under the Greenwood Tree), and Ed Stoppard as Vincenzo (most recently seen in Upstairs Downstairs).

With such a fabulous cast and a dreamy Italian setting, I hold high hopes for this series - it has a lot of promise. Thoughts? :)

Oh, and before I got upset I was going to mention how I love the graphics for the show. And how does Rufus not seem to age, but only gets better looking as time goes by?!?

@Lori - Way to bring the buzzkill Lori. ;) Seriously I'm kind of shocked because it seems like the show was well-received! Maybe another network (like ITV) will bring it back - if not at least we get 3 episodes with Rufus looking INCREDIBLE! *swoons* I don't understand it either, the man is a walking miracle...

Believe me...I did NOT want to know that but there it was...top result. I blame this all on google search. HA!

Hurray!
I think the man improves with age and this looks like a great series. I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens to it.

Hey Ruth, I've missed South Riding, but I did go to see Jane Eyre a second time...

I really want to see this show! Rufus Sewell is VERY enjoyable to watch, and the series sounds very intriguing.
I certainly hope that some other channel picks up the show! BBC has to be crazy to drop it!

@Lori - *sigh* Okay, FINE...we'll blame this one on Google. I owe ya one anyways for dragging you to that gosh-awful Something Borrowed. ;)

@Elaine - I'm sure there will be an increase in publicity about the show leading up to the July premiere! :)

@Debra - Oh you are SO right, he does. Keeping my fingers crossed that this show delivers. :) And I'm SO jealous that you've been to see Jane Eyre TWICE...I've still only been able to make that happen once!

@phylly3 - I heartily agree! :) YAY FOR RUFUS!
