Current project...

Generally speaking, I'm not a fan of Thomas Kinkade, but when I discovered he had a series of Disney-themed paintings I was all over that. :) Isn't this gorgeous?

This Cinderella print is probably my favorite from the series so far, since I'm a die hard romantic and was a total "Disney Princess" girl growing up. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that eventually a Sleeping Beauty painting will be added to the series, since that is my favorite animated Disney film (are you listening, Kinkade?). :)

A couple of weeks ago Kristin posted about purchasing a Kinkade/Disney cross stitch project, and I was positively inspired. I haven't attempted a cross stitch in years - in fact, I have a horrible track record with any type of craft project like this. But give me a subject I really like and maybe, just maybe, I'll stick with it (keeping my fingers crossed). I've been wanting some sort of project to keep my hands busy while watching TV in the evenings after work. With that goal in mind, last week I made a trip to Hobby Lobby and purchased the 5x7 Cinderella Disney Dreams cross stitch kit. Since then, I've made great headway (if I do say so myself) on the skirt of Cinderella's gown.

This is the goal:

I'm trying not to get intimidated. This is definitely the most involved cross stitch project I've ever attempted. Hopefully my project will 1) get finished and 2) look this good. Time will tell...

Any other cross stitchers out there?

dumb question...but do they not have facial features?

Loved the painting. Good luck with your project, hope it comes out great! =]

The last time I tried to cross-stitch I wound up throwing it across the room.

@Deborah - Not a dumb question. :) On the painting yes, but not on the cross stitch - this piece finished is only 5x7, so there's not enough room to do anything more than dots for eyes, if that. They probably look better imitating Willow Tree figures...LOL!

@Caroline - Thanks, me too! :)

@heidenkind - See, that's always been MY problem. LOL! But I really really really want to actually complete a project...we'll see how this goes...and how long it takes. LOL!

Good luck! That's one craft medium I'm not too interested in, but I am quite sure you can do this!

I love his fairy tale series. Good luck! I have faith in you.

That's awesome, Ruth! :) I love all of the Disney cross stitch designs. I've never done counted cross stitching before, so I thought I would buy one of the 5x7 ones to try before I invest in one of the big ones. :) I still haven't started on my Pinocchio one! I've been working on the Princess and the Pea embroidery forever now, but the end is in sight. :)

Good luck, and I can't wait to see the finished piece. :)

@Liv - Thanks friend! This type of project really forces me to practice patience... :)

@Juju - Thanks!

@Kristin - Thank you for the inspiration. :) When I was googling around for pics, I saw that last fall a Beauty & the Beast painting was announced...I hope they produce a cross stitch pattern for it too! And I agree...I'd love to maybe complete one of the larger kits, but I need to prove to myself that I can finish a 5x7 without going crazy. :) I can't wait to see your Pinocchio piece!

Very cool, Ruth! I'd seen a little bit about Thomas Kinkade's Disney paintings on the web (I love his work!), but I didn't realize they had cross-stitch projects!

My grandma taught me how to cross-stitch a few years ago or so, and I really enjoyed it. I haven't done much cross-stitching in QUITE a while, though, so I'd love to get back into it! How much did this kit cost?

@Amber - I was super excited to learn about the cross stitch kits too! I think I paid $12.99 for this 5x7 kit - if I recall, the full-size kits (of the entire painting) were somewhere in the neighborhood of $33.

I do a lot of cross stitch, and generally while watching TV. But I must warn you that doing counted cross stitch while watching TV often results in mistakes, which you may not realise you have done until it's too late to fix them. That happened to me and I had stitched so much that I couldn't figure out where the mistake was and had to adjust the pattern slightly.

I love Thomas Kincade's paintings - especially those with lighthouses. I have a few of his cross stitches to do, but they are still in my 'To Be Stitched' pile - which is quite large and keeps growing.
Happy stitching, and if you want to see some of what I've done or am doing, click here.

How fun! I did a bit of cross stitching a few years back...it was very theraputic. :-) And if you're going to do it, what better way than Thomas Kincade...and Disney!!! ;-) Good luck on your project and please post pics when it's finished!

@Beth - You are so right! I try to change thread color or anything really "involved" during commercial breaks. So far, so good. :)

@Alexandra - I agree, there's something about the rhythm of cross stitching that's very theraputic. :) Thanks for the well wishes, and I definitely will post pics when I'm finished (or in progress, depending on how long this takes - LOL!).

@Traxy - I know! I just love the little touches, like the mice, the dog, the wicked stepsisters on the bridge... :)
