I am so incredibly excited about the next presentation on Masterpiece Classic, starting this Sunday. South Riding is a new three-part drama with a script penned by the prolific Andrew Davies and brought to life by a slew of Masterpiece veterans. Here's a bit about the story we have to look forward to:
Don't miss Bleak House's Anna Maxwell Martin as a feisty young headmistress campaigning for change and avoiding love in Depression-era Yorkshire when South Riding debuts this Sunday, May 1, 2011, on MASTERPIECE Classic. David Morrissey (Sense & Sensibility) and Penelope Wilton (Downton Abbey) also star in Andrew Davis' adaptation of Winifred Holtby's classic novel.The above teaser neglects to mention that a favorite of mine, Douglas Henshall (yay for Primeval!) is also in this production. You can watch a short preview below:

Look for my review of Part One on Monday! :)
I'm very excited! :)

@Kristin - Me too, i can't wait to discuss! :)
ReplyDeleteI have mixed feelings. On one hand, I'm eager to see it as it has a great cast, but on the other I've heard it's not very good. (Which I'll take with a grain of salt, since I usually disagree with critics anyway!) I just hope it's clean and doesn't become too graphic with the philandering minister. =P
ReplyDelete@Charity - I'm really looking forward to it too, but I've been a bit bummed today to read several lukewarm reviews. Of course, considering PBS stations will probably cut about 30 minutes over the course of the broadcast, that won't help matters. Yesterday and today I watched Upstairs Downstairs on DVD (newest series), and while I really liked the broadcast, it improved SO MUCH with the addition of the cut scenes. So I like that series even more now. Keeping my fingers crossed that I'll feel the critics are wrong. :)
ReplyDeleteWe don't need another disappointment like "Any Human Heart." :)

I'm looking forward to watching this online! I loved Anna Maxwell Martin in Bleak House.
ReplyDelete@Kristin - SERIOUSLY. :P After last night I'm very hopeful that's not the case - I really enjoyed Part One. Review up in a bit! :)
ReplyDelete@Roving Reader - Oh me too! Hope you get to watch the first episode soon!
