Finally, finally we have a proper trailer for the upcoming season of Doctor Who! And it is amazing. This season is gonna be grand! :)
Earlier this week, the first promo "launch" image for Season 7 was released, and much like the last few seconds of this trailer, it is intense:
Here's the official Season 7 teaser summary:
The new season will see the last days of the Ponds, with Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill making their final rollercoaster voyage with The Doctor (Matt Smith). Amy (Karen Gillan) and Rory (Arthur Darvill) have been at the Doctor’s side for more than two seasons but what will he do after their heartbreaking departure?
New guest stars so far confirmed to star will include David Bradley, Rupert Graves and Mark Williams. Season 7 will then see a dramatic turn of events when The Doctor meets a new friend – the recently-announced new companion, played by Jenna-Louse Coleman. Prepare yourselves for thrills, adventures and dramatic surprises as the show builds towards its enormous, climactic 50th anniversary year.
Fourteen big, blockbuster-movie episodes – each a brand new epic adventure featuring new monsters and some familiar foes as you’ve never seen them before.
Out of this world exciting news broke for fans of Doctor Who yesterday when it was announced that Series 6 will premiere on BBC America April 23rd, the same day the series starts in the UK! Here's some additional info about this two-part season opener:
Doctor Who is coming to America in a spectacular two-part season premiere on BBC AMERICA. Part One premieres Saturday, April 23 at 9/8c. The mysterious time traveler, the Doctor (Matt Smith), and his companions Amy (Karen Gillan) and Rory (Arthur Darvill), find themselves on a secret summons that takes them on an adventure from the desert in Utah - right to the Oval Office in1969. More details will be revealed in the coming weeks about this two-parter penned by ‘Who supremo’ Steven Moffat (Sherlock) and featuring guest star Mark Sheppard (Supernatural, Battlestar Galactica). Also set to return this season, Alex Kingston (ER, Flash Forward), as the irrepressible River Song.
Since the season opens in the US (squee!), I'm even more excited about the same-day premiere! Check out the awesome key art for the series below:
And here's a look ahead at what's sure to be a brilliant season (if for no other reason than the Stetson line):
This is fantastic, amazing, unbelievably good news! BBC America just announced that they will premiere the new season of Primeval January 1st, the same day as in the UK! Yes, yes, YES!!! My excitement just cannot be adequately expressed by mere typing...
You can read more info about the new season here (thrilled to find out that Ciarán McMenamin is joining the cast, I LOVE him!). Here's some excerpts from the press release:
When rips in time called anomalies started opening across the UK, dangerous creatures from the past and future began appearing in the most unexpected places, endangering lives and putting the whole of humanity at risk. A crack team of specialists were appointed by the government to deal with these "creature incursions." This job has proven deadly for multiple team members and threats continue to escalate.
Ciarán McMenamin (Jericho, Demons), Alexander Siddig (Clash of the Titans, 24, Syriana, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine) and young Irish actress Ruth Kearney join the team at the Anomaly Research Center (ARC) after the government loses faith in Home Office official Lester's (Ben Miller) ability to run such a dangerous and expensive operation on his own. The anomaly operation is now a public/private partnership, part-owned by the government, and partly by charismatic scientist Philip Burton (Siddig).
With Connor (Andrew-Lee Potts, Alice), Abby (Hannah Spearritt) and Danny (Jason Flemyng, X-Men: First Class, Snatch) trapped in the past at the end of season three, the ARC has found new recruits to take their place: Matt (McMenamin), the new field leader, who's more than just an ex-soldier. He's a zoologist, with an uncanny ability to understand animals. A private man, Matt carefully guards the secrets of his past and the real reason he joined the team. Unconventional Jess (Kearney) now runs operations from the ARC Control Centre. She is highly efficient and her work ethic is second to none, though she is human enough to nurse an unrequited crush on Captain Becker (Ben Mansfield).
The new season picks up approximately one year after the last season ended - Abby and Connor finally escape from the Cretaceous period, only to be followed by a giant Spinosaurus, the largest of all known carnivorous dinosaurs. A new ARC team springs into action, leaving Abby and Connor's place within the team in jeopardy while their former leader Danny is still missing.
There's also some exciting Doctor Who-related news in this release - for the first time that I'm aware of, the Doctor Who Prom special will air on Christmas Day in the US (along with the Christmas special that evening). The Prom is a live concert event featuring stars Matt Smith and Karen Gillan.
BBC America just announced some HUGE news for fans of Doctor Who - they will be broadcasting the new Christmas special (entitled "A Christmas Carol") on Christmas Day. I believe this may be the first time fans in the US will get the special the same day as the Brits...BBC-A is really stepping up their broadcast game and I for one am so thankful. :) Here's the synopsis info from BBC-A's website:
Matt and Karen return for an all-new Christmas special, along with Arthur Darvill and guest stars Michael Gambon (Harry Potter) and Katherine Jenkins.
More details to come, but Lead Writer and Executive Producer, Steven Moffat, confirmed, 'Oh, we're going for broke with this one. It's all your favorite Christmas movies at once, in an hour, with monsters. And the Doctor. And a honeymoon. And ... oh, you'll see. I've honestly never been so excited about writing anything!'
I came across a new Doctor Who trailer for series 5 on the blogs today. It's great to get another look at Matt Smith as the eleventh incarnation of the Doctor, as well as the new companion, Amy, played by Karen Gillan. However, the most exciting part of seeing this trailer is the revelation that series 5 is going to start at Easter - that will be here before we know it! Hopefully BBC America won't be far behind the BBC in giving us the new episodes. :)
