Okay, Romeo & Juliet has never been one of my favorite Shakespeare plays, but this looks gorgeous and a million times better than the Franco Zeffirelli film, so yay for that. Script by Julian Fellowes and DAMIAN LEWIS as Lord Capulet. DAMIAN friggin' LEWIS. I am so there.

Since my personality doesn't like tragic stories such as Romeo & Juliet (plus add in my aversion to Shakespeare dialogue), I am not sure how well I'll like this one. That being said, it looks pretty, is penned by Julian Fellowes and the cast rocks, so I'll probably see it.
I would like to see a movie that looks this lovely, but... I don't know that I want to invest emotionally in such a tragic story. Or could, if you know what I mean. Because I KNOW what's going to happen, unless Fellowes deviated to the extreme.
I was going to say something to you about this...I knew you'd be excited about Damian! The one thing that makes me hesitate is Ed Westwick. I never really watched Gossip Girl but he really bugged me in every clip I ever saw of it.
@Rissi - Oh goodness...I can't imagine my life without Shakespeare's glorious writing!! :) R&J isn't my favorite play either...but like I said, this has to be better than the Zeffirelli film, so I'm pretty excited. :)
@Lori - Okay, here's my deal with R&J...I think they are both really dumb. So I don't really worry about emotional investment. ;) But more than that I just love love LOVE Shakespeare's way with words. That's what I'm excited about here.
@Lori - I don't know that I've seen Ed Westwick in anything, honestly... *off to look him up*
I agree with Rissi for once -- I can't stand the prose, I wish they'd modernize the language once in awhile since it does look very pretty -- but I dislike Shakespeare for the same reasons I never read the King James Bible -- it's bloody hard to understand!
@Charity - Oh goodness...I mean I get it...but I can't relate to it at all. I ADORE Shakespeare's language. GAH!! Makes me happy. ;) Modernizing it...I'd rather have a loose adaptation of the story beats than one that tries to adapt his language. Doesn't work for me in that case. *shrugs* ;)
