At first glance the concept is pretty weird, though a lot less weird than Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. After all, it does start with a very traditional view of Hansel and Gretel. It then expounds upon what being held captive by, and triumphing over, a witch would do to a pair of siblings as they grow up in a world where witches go after other little kids.
It looks like part Grimm, part Snow White and the Huntsman, and a lot Jeremy Renner action movie with historical twist. So it could be pretty amazing. The tone of the movie feels a little off - too modern war feeling, maybe? And I'm not sure about the hints at macabre humor, but I don't know if I'm hoping the actual movie will be more humorous, or less.
I haven't made up my mind on this one. They chose to go with the R-rated gore-fest, for one thing, over the "hacked up PG13 version." Normally, I eat this kind of thing up, but something about the trailer doesn't sit well with me. I used to be all over this stuff, but I'm not as much anymore. So we'll see. Since I love Gemma, and a friend loves Jeremy, we'll probably see it.
@Katie Hart - I think that's what I'm struggling with...the tone of the trailer hit me as "off" and I couldn't quite put my finger on it. The only conclusion I can come to right now is that the humor feels a bit forced and modern...time will tell!
@Charity - I love Jeremy, and Gemma too, so I'm interested...but with reservations. I will probably wait until I can read some reviews and hear from some trusted friends. If it is too much of a gore-fest there's no way I'll be able to stomach it...
@Mrs. Pederson - Oh me too! I just love him. :)
@Rissi - It's either going to be good and inventive or a train wreck... ;)
Sorry for the word verification & comment moderation, but lately the spammers have been out in force. Hopefully this will just be a temporary situation!

ReplyDeleteI've enjoyed most of Renner's movies! Not sure whether I'll watch this or not...
