Thanks to Charleybrown for posting about this - I had NO IDEA Shannon Hale's Austenland was being made into a film! Via ComingSoon.net, the cast includes Keri Russell, JJ Feild (SQUEE!!!), James Callis, Jennifer Coolidge, and Jane Seymour.
I cannot WAIT. :)
Oh, what is this? What's Austenland? How do I not know about it? at any rate, I love Keri Russell! So I'll be seeing it for sure :)
ReplyDeleteI had been reading Shannon Hale's blog posts about a super-secret big surprise coming up, so I guess this is it! :) I'm really excited- the cast looks great.
ReplyDeleteI have two little concerns: first, that Stephanie Meyer is a producer. That makes me the slightest big worried about how the film will turn out, for some reason. :) Also, according to one website, they're writing it like Jane spends her life savings on the trip instead of it being left to her. A big part of the beginning of the book is that she doesn't know whether to ignore or indulge her obsession, but when the trip is left to her, she doesn't have much of a choice.

@Heather - Here's my review of the novel: http://booktalkandmore.blogspot.com/2011/03/review-austenland-by-shannon-hale.html - It is really cute!
ReplyDelete@Kristin - I think JJ is going to be great as the Mr. Darcy character! :) While S.M.'s name is apt to make me gag, so I understand your concern, as producer I'm not overly worried about her role at this point in the game. I'd be more concerned if she was penning the script. ;)
As to the other issue - well, I could see the life savings thing adding some on-screen tension to the storyline - especially if she's taking this plunge with no guarantee of reward - if that makes sense. I'll be following movie news on this closely from here on out - and let me know when you discover anything interesting or squee-worthy! :)
This is exciting! I adore Keri Russell and loved JJ Feild in Northanger Abbey. I agree with you Kristin and Ruth-- attaching Stephanie Meyer's name to the project makes me nervous, but hopefully since she's not writing the script it won't have as big an impact :)
ReplyDeleteThis looks like it's going to be a fun film. JJ Feild...and of course Jane Seymour is an instant grabs-my-attention for me. Interested to see how it turns out!
ReplyDeleteI heard about this online last night and immediately thought of you. :) It's quite exciting!
ReplyDeleteRuth, although the book failed to impress me, I AM impressed with this cast!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the shoutout!
OH!!!!! I loved that book. So exciting! And I love your blog BTW.
ReplyDelete@Roving Reader - I think Keri Russell is a great choice for the lead in this too! Keeping my fingers crossed that Stephanie M. doesn't try to meddle with the script. ;)
ReplyDelete@Alexandra - I think so too. I can't wait till we're far enough along to get a trailer!
@heidenkind - SQUEE! :) I'm so predictable. LOL!
@Charleybrown - Oh you're welcome, thanks for sharing the news!
@Christina - Thank you! And thanks for stopping by my blog! Great to meet another Austen/Shannon Hale fan. :)
Shannon Hale, Stephenie Meyer, AND Jerusha Hess is writing it (she did Napoleon Dynamite) - it's like the Mormon housewife trifecta, ha ha. So I guess I'll watch it to support my fellow Mormon housewives. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI didn't love the book - I thought there were some funny moments, but the ending could have been better. But JJ FEILD! I would watch him read the phone book. He has the best voice EVER.
@Joni - JJ Feild is adorable, isn't he? And his voice? SWOON. Really looking forward to this one. :)
ReplyDeleteWhoa...I totally missed this post. This will be fun! Didn't we go to hear Shannon Hale at some book event years ago? I can't remember if it was you or not.
ReplyDelete@Lori - I don't know how you missed this post, clearly you don't pay enough attention to my blog. :P Yep, that was you & me who went to Shannon's talk at the Southern Festival of Books a couple of years ago - I remember she was hilarious!
ReplyDeleteHA HA! Yes, I'm slacking.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I remember she was hilarious at that discussion!
@Lori - I hope she comes back someday, I would love to hear her speak again!
