Rob Marshall Signs on to Direct Johnny Depp's 'Thin Man' Remake
I am seriously, SERIOUSLY disturbed by this idea. Ya'll know I love me some Johnny Depp, but The Thin Man (especially the 1st film in the series) is just one of those perfect, caught lightning in a bottle classics that doesn't need to be remade. What's next, redoing Singin' In the Rain?!
I agree, why would a director remake something they can't improve on?
ReplyDelete@heidenkind - AMEN and SO TRUE and I SECOND YOUR VIEW 200%. *sigh*
ReplyDeleteAh that ain't right! Booooooooooooooo!
ReplyDeleteYikes! Pardon me while I go look at info on this....
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'm back. Even MORE disturbing: Did you see that they plan to keep it in the 1930s time frame but with modern attitude? What the heck?
I just don't see this as a good thing no matter how you look at it. Even though I do like to look at Johnny Depp.
Oh, no! How on earth could they even consider this? You can't remake perfection!
ReplyDeleteI love Johnny Depp, but he is not Nick Charles. And nobody could ever even come close to Myrna Loy.
Maybe this will be one of those remakes that you hear about but never actually comes about. :)

I can guarantee you this...I won't be plunking down money at the theatre to see it. IF I see it I'll wait for the library to get a copy so I can check it out for free.
ReplyDeleteI've come to realize sadly that NOTHING is hands off when it comes to remakes. I get so tired by the lack of originality by the film industry when we continue to see so many recycled films. Some remakes have worked but honestly, I feel insulted when producers keep handing us the same old movies again and again... definitely a pet peeve of mine!
ReplyDeleteThey obviously should have consulted with you first before even considering an updated Thin Man!
What a wretched idea! Hollywood needs to learn you can't mess with perfection.
ReplyDelete@Juju - I KNOW!
ReplyDelete@Bev - Thanks for the additional (and even more disturbing) intel on this production. I shudder to think who might be cast as Nora!
@Kristin - We can hope but somehow I doubt it. ;) With Johnny Depp as star...yeah it will make some $ I'm sure.
@Charleybrown - You are SO right! Some remakes work, but more often than not they are poor, shadowy imitations of the originals. They should've checked with either of us first, LOL!
@Ryan G - Thanks for stopping by & commenting. I whole-heartedly agree.
I have to say it does my heart good to hear from so many Thin Man movie fans! :)
Eek!!! This is one of those classics that should not be tampered with- what are they thinking? I'm not a big fan of Johnny Depp's to begin with, and I doubt he can match William Powell's droll delivery of lines (and the fabulous way he pours drinks)
ReplyDelete@Roving Reader - It's going to take some real work on my part to try and disassociate this new film from the classic (if I can talk myself into seeing it - HA!!!). ;) I love Johnny Depp, but I adore William Powell - such a classy guy. :)
