Tonight, part one of the new Alice miniseries airs on the SyFy Channel. I have high hopes for this show since it comes from the creators of the Tin Man miniseries which I absolutely love & adore (that would've made an excellent hour-long show, but one can't have everything...*sigh*). Plus, Andrew Lee Potts (from Primeval) plays the Mad Hatter!! If for no other reason than that wonderful bit of casting I have great hopes Alice lives up to it's Oz-inspired predecessor.
@heidenkind - I really think Tin Man was the test pilot for a potential show, which is why the end of part 2 sort of leaves a lot of loose ends hanging around. However, overall I loved the entire show too much to care. *wink*
@Lori - Glad you stopped by - when I saw Philip Winchester in the preview, I kept thinking I needed to make sure you knew about the miniseries. If Hulu doesn't pick up the show, maybe there's a chance it'll air on the SyFy website, like PBS does with their Masterpiece programs...? Have to wait and see I guess.
Thanks for letting us know about this project. It sounds like it could be fantastic! Kathy Bates, Tim Curry and the-cute-guy-off-Primeval! :D
Loved "Tin Man" in all its steampunky glory! Recorded it recently when it was shown on SciFi UK. Great show! There's just something about Ahamo that makes me all tingly. Plus when someone said "Where can we find Ahamo?" really made me giggle, as the way she said it sounded sooo much like she said "Where can we find a homo?" Maybe I'm just easily amused. *cough* Aww, and Zooey Deschanel is wonderful... and all the other actors... and the story and the setting and-and-and...!
Hopefully they'll show "Alice" over here not too long after they show it in the US. :)
@Traxy - Yay, glad things are working now. You know, you've brought up something I've never really thought about - someone overseas having to wait for a US show to premiere there. I get so frustrated waiting for my fav British shows I never think about ya'll having to wait for anything... ;-)
Anyways, soooo glad to meet another Tin Man fan!! I LOVE that show! Since you liked Tin Man I think you'll love Alice too - it was a lot of trippy, steam punk-filled fun. :)
Oh yay! Sounds great! :D I just loved the whole "taking a familiar thing and turning it completely on its head" kind of thing, which is what they did with Tin Man. We all know Wizard of Oz... but we never knew it to be quite like that. I suppose that's why I really enjoyed "The Eyre Affair" by Jasper Fforde, because it also turned reality and something familiar and turned it upside down. It's the imagination of it all that's really impressive.
Nowadays, the wait can actually be quite negligible on some shows. "NCIS" is only a week or less after the US, for instance. Other shows, yeah, then we have to sit tight and wait. Currently waiting for the final season of "Lost", but then again, it's not out in the US until the new year either. I hate waiting!
@Traxy - Oh you and me both - I HATE waiting for shows I'm obsessed with.
The Eyre Affair is such a great book! I am with you, I love it when an author or a movie takes something that's a familiar part of the public consciousness and turns it inside out.
Sorry for the word verification & comment moderation, but lately the spammers have been out in force. Hopefully this will just be a temporary situation!
I hope Alice is good. I loved the beginning of Tin Man but the second half was kind of disappointing.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Hulu will air it? I don't have cable, so unless they do, I suppose I'll have to wait for the DVD. Andrew Lee Potts! Philip Winchester!
